What You Need to Know

You don't need to attend a special school or already work as a dental assistant to get your permit. The Oklahoma Dental Foundation's website explains the whole process.

Don't Miss This

Expanded functions from our program don't transfer to Oklahoma. Only a 2-year technical college program transfers them. You can add them through Oklahoma Dental Foundation classes instead.

Your Step-by-Step

  1. Apply for your permit. Submit the Permit Application to the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry before taking the radiology course. Leave Section II blank and fill in Section III.
  2. Take the Radiation Safety Course. Through the Oklahoma Dental Foundation ($145). The course is online, but the exam is at a proctored site. When you pass, the Foundation sends your information to the Board.
  3. Apply for Expanded Functions (Radiology). The Board will contact you with next steps.
Optional

Grow Your Career

Add expanded functions like nitrous oxide, infection control, coronal polishing and sealants through Oklahoma Dental Foundation classes. Some are only available after working for an Oklahoma dentist for a year or more.
