What You Need to Know

Our program gives you everything you need to be considered a Dental Assistant II In Training when you start working under a licensed dentist:

  • A 3-hour course in sterilization and infection control
  • A 3-hour course in dental office emergencies
  • 7 hours of radiography instruction and at least 14 hours of clinical dental radiology

Keep your CPR certification renewed.

Don't Miss This

To take x-rays, you must score 80% or higher on both your X-Ray Final Exam and your X-Ray Final Practical Exam. If you don't, you'll need to take another Board-approved radiology class (7 hours of classroom + 14 hours of clinical instruction).

Optional

Grow Your Career

North Carolina has three dental assistant levels:

  • Dental Assistant I: no specific requirements.
  • Dental Assistant II In Training: where you'll be when you graduate.
  • Dental Assistant II: after at least two years (3,000 hours) of chairside assisting under a North Carolina-licensed dentist. During that time you can be trained to perform most DA II functions under direct supervision.
