FLORIDAHHH!!! — Why a Board-Approved Dental Assisting Program Is Worth It
Florida isn’t just a great place to live — it’s one of the strongest states in the country for dental assistant employment. Demand continues to outpace the national average, which translates to real job security and long-term opportunity for those entering the field.
While it is possible to begin working as a dental assistant in Florida under the supervision of a licensed dentist, skipping formal training often comes with limitations. The biggest difference comes down to what you’re legally allowed to do in a dental office.
Dental assistants trained solely on the job are typically limited to basic chairside tasks. Performing expanded functions or taking and processing X-rays requires additional credentials — and those credentials matter.
When you’re properly trained and board approved, it means:
• A stronger edge in the hiring pool
• Faster career growth and higher earning potential
• Less risk of being stuck in a chairside-only role
To qualify for expanded functions in Florida, dental assistants must complete training through a CODA-accredited program or graduate from a Florida Board of Dentistry–approved expanded duties program. Similarly, to legally perform radiography, assistants must graduate from a Florida Board of Dentistry–approved dental assisting program or become state-certified through the Florida Department of Health.
This is where Accelerated Academy stands out.
Accelerated Academy offers a Florida Board of Dentistry–approved dental assisting program designed to prepare students for expanded functions and dental radiography eligibility. Our 10-week hybrid program combines hands-on training inside real dental offices with state-approved curriculum, so graduates enter the workforce with the credentials Florida employers trust — and the skills to make an impact from day one.
