Trusted Dental Assisting School Expands in Michigan to Address Workforce Shortages
Michigan — Across the state, dental practices are working hard to meet patient demand, but many are facing the same challenge: finding enough trained dental professionals to keep up.
Dental assistants play a critical role in keeping dental offices running smoothly, yet many practices in Michigan are experiencing staffing shortages that make it harder to expand services and reduce wait times for patients.According to statewide workforce data, 58 of Michigan’s 83 counties are considered dental shortage areas, making it increasingly important to expand training pathways for dental professionals.
That’s why workforce training programs are becoming an important part of the solution.
Accelerated Academy is proud to support Michigan’s dental community by helping train the next generation of dental assistants through hands-on programs hosted directly inside working dental offices.
Partnering with My Community Dental Centers
One of Accelerated Academy’s key partners in Michigan is My Community Dental Centers (MCDC), one of the state’s largest dental care providers.
Through this partnership, Accelerated Academy now supports five dental assisting training locations hosted inside MCDC facilities across Michigan, giving students the opportunity to learn in real clinical environments while helping strengthen the local dental workforce.
Students in the program receive hands-on training alongside experienced dental professionals, learning instrumentation, terminology, and chairside assisting skills inside a working dental practice.
For many students, it’s their first real look at what a career in dentistry can be like.
And for dental offices, it helps build a pipeline of trained assistants who are ready to step into the field.
Supporting Michigan’s Workforce Development Efforts
Across the state, health leaders and organizations have been working to expand training pathways that bring more professionals into the dental field.
Programs supported by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services continue to focus on strengthening the healthcare workforce and improving access to care across the state.
Professional organizations in Michigan have also invested in workforce development through grant funding and community initiatives designed to support oral health programs and expand the dental workforce.
Accelerated Academy’s training model complements these efforts by creating another pathway for individuals interested in entering the dental profession.
Instead of spending years in traditional schooling, students can complete a 10-week dental assisting program hosted directly inside a dental office, learning the real skills needed in a modern dental practice.
Training Where the Work Actually Happens
One of the things that makes the Accelerated Academy model unique is where training takes place.
Rather than learning in a simulated classroom environment, students train inside active dental clinics. That means they’re surrounded by real equipment, real workflows, and the pace of a real practice from the very beginning.
By the time students complete the program, they’re not just familiar with dental assisting — they’ve already experienced the clinical environment where they’ll eventually work.
That hands-on experience is something many dental partners say makes a real difference when students transition into the workforce.
A Growing Network of Michigan Dental Partners
While My Community Dental Centers currently hosts multiple training locations, Accelerated Academy works with a growing network of dental partners across Michigan, each contributing to the effort to expand dental career opportunities and strengthen the workforce.
Every partner plays an important role in helping train future dental professionals who will go on to serve patients across the state.
Together, these partnerships help create opportunities for students while supporting dental practices that are working hard to meet the needs of their communities.
Building the Next Generation of Dental Assistants
For many students, dental assisting offers a meaningful entry point into healthcare — one that allows them to begin working in the field quickly while building valuable clinical skills.
By partnering with organizations like My Community Dental Centers and other dental practices throughout Michigan, Accelerated Academy is helping make those opportunities more accessible to students across the state.
As the demand for dental professionals continues to grow, programs that connect students directly with dental practices will play an important role in helping strengthen Michigan’s dental workforce for years to come.
