How to Become a Pharmacy Technician

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Submit a pharmacy technician registration application to the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy
  • Pass a criminal background check and provide fingerprints
  • Choose one of the following qualification paths:
    • Option A: Complete a Board-approved pharmacy technician training program and pass the PTCE or ExCPT
    • Option B: Complete 2,080 hours of supervised on-the-job training and pass a Board-developed exam
  • Renew registration annually
