Oregon requires pharmacy technicians to be licensed. Technicians must begin with a temporary license and complete training and certification to become fully licensed.
How to Become a Pharmacy Technician
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Apply for a Pharmacy Technician license to begin training (valid for up to 2 years)
- Choose one of the following paths to qualify for full licensure:
- Option A: Complete a Board-approved or ASHP-accredited pharmacy technician training program and pass the PTCE or ExCPT
- Option B: Accumulate sufficient supervised work experience and pass a national certification exam
- Upgrade to a Certified Oregon Pharmacy Technician license upon passing the national exam
- Renew license annually

Pharmacy technicians in Oregon typically earn $19–$24 per hour. Certified technicians and those in hospital settings may earn more.
