How to Become a Pharmacy Technician

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Apply for a Pharmacy Technician license to begin training (valid for up to 2 years)
  • Choose one of the following paths to qualify for full licensure:
    • Option A: Complete a Board-approved or ASHP-accredited pharmacy technician training program and pass the PTCE or ExCPT
    • Option B: Accumulate sufficient supervised work experience and pass a national certification exam
  • Upgrade to a Certified Oregon Pharmacy Technician license upon passing the national exam
  • Renew license annually
