Minnesota Pharmacy Technician Requirements

Minnesota requires all pharmacy technicians to be registered with the state before working. Formal training is required, but applicants may meet this through different education options.

How to Become a Pharmacy Technician

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Submit a pharmacy technician registration application to the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy
  • Complete one of the following education options:
    • Option A: Enroll in or complete a Board-approved or nationally accredited pharmacy technician training program
    • Option B: Provide employer documentation showing enrollment in on-the-job training with intention to complete formal program within 12 months
  • (Optional) Pass the PTCE or ExCPT for national certification
  • Renew registration every year

Pharmacy Technician Salary

Pharmacy technicians in Minnesota typically earn $19–$22 per hour. Certified technicians and those in hospital settings may earn higher wages.
