Indiana Pharmacy Technician Requirements

Indiana requires pharmacy technicians to be licensed before working in a pharmacy. Technicians may begin as Technician Trainees but must meet certification and education requirements to remain in the field long term.

How to Become a Pharmacy Technician

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a high school diploma or GED, or be actively working toward one
  • Submit an application for a Pharmacy Technician-in-Training license to the Indiana Board of Pharmacy
  • Complete a Board-approved training program
  • Pass a national certification exam (PTCE or ExCPT)
  • Upgrade to a Certified Pharmacy Technician license
  • Renew license every two years
