Idaho Pharmacy Technician Requirements
Idaho requires all pharmacy technicians to be registered with the state. There are two levels: Technician-in-Training and Certified Pharmacy Technician. National certification is required to advance beyond trainee status.
How to Become a Pharmacy Technician
- Be at least 16 years old
- Hold a high school diploma or GED, or be actively working toward one
- Apply as a Technician-in-Training if not yet certified
- Complete a PTCB-recognized training program or gain 500+ hours of experience
- Pass a national certification exam (PTCE or ExCPT)
- Apply to upgrade to Certified Pharmacy Technician
- Renew registration annually

Pharmacy technicians in Idaho typically earn $18–$21 per hour. Certified technicians often earn higher wages and qualify for expanded roles.
